Wangari Maathai: A Warrior in the Quest for Justice
Nebila Abdulmelik

Yesterday, September 25th 2011, the world said farewell to a heroic woman, a tireless activist, and a champion for women’s rights, democracy and the environment. Wangari Maathai stood up to the powers that be, serving as the voice for the voiceless. She mobilized countless others to take ownership of the land that serves as a livelihood and lifeline. She was tireless in her efforts, and we salute her. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy continues to live on. May her quest for justice, her wisdom and her teachings live through us as we continue the work she began.

FEMNET celebrates Wangari Maathai! You have left this world a better place and we are forever indebted to you. May you rest in peace.
